Quick story:
I recently reconnected with a former patient, Marie. We just happened to pass each other on the street and have a brief chat a few months ago. Marie then came back to the clinic last week and gave me the lowdown on some recent symptoms (hip, side-of-her-leg and knee pain, which she has a history of) and how she hoped for some relief, as walking was becoming less comfortable. So, out of transparency, I did my full re-evaluation (it’s been more than 7 years).
What I discovered was plenty of the “usual suspects” of stress & time-induced subluxation. However, her biggest issue right now had more to do with muscle strain and tension. I shared the blunt and sincere truth that massage would be more ideal in the moment (and referred her), but also left the door open if she wanted to work together in a preventative way for me to help keep her thriving and functioning well. We are also doing x-rays so we can get an even bigger picture look at what’s going on. Aside from the infrared thermal and sEMG spinal scans I do here in the clinic that typically wow new patients (they’re designed to spot intimate levels of nerve messaging interference)…
X-rays let us see bones, joints, and alignment, most importantly postural alignment. They let us study the curves of your spine and quickly pinpoint which are normal and which aren’t. They reveal bones that are abnormal from birth, fractures, dislocations, joint pathologies, arthritic conditions and other types of degeneration. That’s why x-rays are so crucial to our analysis – would you prefer the auto mechanic who merely listens to your car and walks around it, or the one who opens the hood, checks the computer system, test drives it to feel for issues, and puts it up on the hoist to look underneath at all the joints, alignment, and “bones” of your vehicle? (Hopefully this all makes sense even if you’re more of a cyclist…)
Why do I bring all this up? One, I often get questions about this: “are they necessary?”, “my last chiropractor didn’t take x-rays…”
And two, I always strive to be thorough and transparent. Just in the last few weeks I’ve had several comments about how thorough my exams are. And if I don’t think I’m your guy (or some other treatment is more suitable) I’m not afraid to say it. I’m interested in assisting you on your path to health – with whatever is best.
Many of my patients vibe with that approach. And I daresay it’s an endangered species these days. Many health professionals like to pretend they have all the answers. However, I’d caution you against going forward with ANY form of care unless you’re confident in, and trust a provider’s diagnosis and action plan. Just some things to consider when deciding what to do for your health.
Hope this day finds you well!

“Before seeing Dr. Gelber I had Chronic pain, headaches and migraines that I just accepted as part of life. I would take Tylenol 4 times a day, an anti-inflammatory at times in addition to Voltaren to control the pain. I have been seeing Dr. Gelber for a number of months now and the change is amazing. I have taken Tylenol once in the past month and nothing else. I never thought I could be free of this pain. I especially appreciate Dr. Gelber approach in that he provides you with objective findings in the form of scans , x-ray and posture. So you feel better but you can also appreciate your progress. If you need a Chiro – Gelber’s your guy.”
