When “Good” Stress Turns Bad

2020-02-19T13:35:52-05:00

Let me tell you a quick story. In 2018, my wife and I bought our first house (together - I had owned property myself prior to meeting her).  As it is for most first-time home-buyers, it was an exciting prospect.  I was all in, and this time it was far more exciting. When we closed, I found myself thinking about furniture; making the home "ours". I was running around trying to bring together various pieces, exploring a bunch of websites and haunting online reviews, all while trying to keep to our budget and be true to the feeling and flow we [...]

Warren Buffet’s #1 Habit For Success (And Mine)

2019-12-17T15:44:53-05:00

As we cross off the last remaining days on this year’s calendar, I’m already in planning mode for 2020. I like to take time to pause and reflect. And set goals. Do you do something similar? In support of your goals for the New Year, whatever they may be, I thought I’d share this interesting quote from one of the richest men on the planet, Warren Buffet: ==== “The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.” ==== The “Oracle of Omaha” has spoken. Present day is less about finding opportunities [...]

Try This Little-Known Harvey Specter Success Secret

2019-11-26T13:48:37-05:00

Let me share something personal. One of my favourite shows is Suits. I just love all the witty back and forth, the intense personal and courtroom drama, and well…I’ve got two words for you…Harvey Specter. I admit: I’m a fan. As a chiropractor, one of the things I appreciate about Gabriel Macht (the actor who plays Harvey) is how well he portrays the character’s posture and body language. If you haven’t seen the show, Harvey is a high-powered corporate attorney, known as “New York’s best closer”.  And from the moment he enters a scene, you don’t have a shred of doubt [...]

7 Famous People Who Love Chiropractors

2019-10-08T02:30:06-04:00

Change of pace today. My tribute email a few weeks ago about Dr. Franco Columbu mentioned his best pal Arnie’s regular cheerleading of chiropractic.  That got me thinking… What other famous people both love and swear by chiropractic?  So I did a little digging.  And I was pleasantly surprised to discover some pretty illustrious folks singing the praises of my profession. Thought you might find this interesting. Take a look: TIGER WOODS “Being a chiropractic patient has really helped me a lot. When I was in a growth spurt, my back became very sore, and [...]

My “Glory Days” Plan To Get Back My Fitness

2019-09-24T02:10:27-04:00

Keeping on with the fitness theme this month… I want to share something personal. I’ve been “off track” with my fitness for years now. And I’m finally getting around to having a plan in place to get back into things.  What I’m remembering – and why this may be useful to you – is that it’s no small task.  There’s work, planning, and dedication that goes into it. Here’s the short list of what I’ve put in motion: *Got an accountability coach *I’m writing out my workout plan (with the help of a trainer) *Putting in my calendar the days and [...]

Do We Control 70% Of How We Age?

2019-09-11T13:52:52-04:00

Shifting gears a bit today. I’m “back in the saddle”…adapting to life with a newborn (again!)…and with it being September, i.e. back to the routine for many people, I feel inspired to talk about fitness.  In fact, I recently decided it was time for your humble author to re-commit to my own fitness program. (More on that to come.) I want to start by planting a seed. A few years back, The Globe and Mail published an interesting article (“We Control 70% of How We age,” Alex Hutchinson).  The article talks about a study that examined fat and muscle content in [...]

“Little” Health Devils That Hide In The Details

2019-04-18T11:30:57-04:00

Ok, so it’s been a tough few weeks.  I'm clear and aware I'm sharing this week from a passionate and emotional headspace, but on the mark based on so many conversations I have with people. As I’ve been dealing with the dire scenario of my mother-in-law’s illness and passing, I can’t help but be even more preoccupied than usual with thoughts about how to prevent this for all of us, and curious about health and habits.   That last one is truly in my head space right now. It’s all the lifestyle things we sometimes ignore that can lead to “dis-ease” [...]

4 Tips to Help You Sleep Like A Baby

2019-03-05T14:57:25-05:00

There’s an old joke that goes: “When I was going through [insert life event here] I slept like a baby…I woke up every two hours and cried.” Today’s tips are true to the spirit of the saying, thankfully. Good sleep sows the seeds of good health.  It even leads to better food choices (appetite, cravings, and willpower are all shaped by your quality of sleep). Yet, sleep problems are amongst the top complaints I hear with new patients. Ok, enough suspense.   Here are 4 tips to help you sleep better: Wake up at the same time every morning. If there’s [...]

Running Club off to a great start

2012-01-11T17:15:48-05:00

I've decided to keep a running log of my running, well, log! Last Thursday, Jan 5th 2011, marked my first coaching session as a clinic instructor with Running Room Canada.  I've got a class of 20 inspired runners of various skill levels, with a goal of completing a 10-kilometre "Race", or improving on their times from previous 10km races. It feels great to coach in a new environment outside of my clinic, and I get inspired by other people's running improvements and accomplishments! We run 6km 3 in a row this week, and next week the distance begins to build slightly. [...]
