Did you know that poor nutrition negatively impacts bone growth and overall physical development in children?
Start young.
That’s the secret to giving your children every possible advantage when it comes to their health.
In honor of the imminent “back-to-school” wave just around the corner, here are three quick facts you should know:
- No soft drinks.
Phosphorus in soft drinks (mostly the darker coloured ones; check the ingredients for phosphoric acid) can leech calcium out of kids’ bones and inhibit your child’s physical development. I reference this when I talk to adults about getting older and posture influences over time (leeching calcium = less bone density = a shrinking spine, for one)
Remember “Orange Crush”?
Those days are gone! Nowadays, we know better.
- Supplement with DHA.
DHA is an essential fat that has been processed out of many foods. That’s why for starters I don’t recommend you feed your kids processed snacks or cereals. Beyond that, DHA has such a role to play in both brain development and immunity that I encourage you to make regular supplementation a part of your kids’ health plan. If you’ve heard of the Omega-6 vs Omega-3 fatty acid balance, that’s DHA.
- Never too young.
There’s no such thing as being too young for chiropractic.
Spinal vertebrae can become misaligned at any age.
Even infants can have misalignments due to the birth process, or accidents shortly after; I admittedly remember Hayden’s first fall, off an ottoman, and knowing how resilient babies can appear to be, but how lucky he was to get his spine and neck checked immediately after to prevent any future “surprising” trauma.
This can cause problems with baby’s muscles and organs…even deformities of the spine. Colic, breathing problems, nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, allergic reactions and chronic infections can often be traced to nerve system stress.
Most parents’ biggest concern re: chiropractic, is safety.
Note that chiropractic adjustments are both 100% SAFE for children and infants and tailored to the age and size of the patient. A steady pressure with as little as the pinkie finger can adjust the delicate segments on your little one!
And as always, if there’s anything I can do to give your kids the best “head start” on being healthy, it would be my pleasure to do so!
Sincerely In Health,
Dr. Josh
