Pregnancy care

Pregnancy chiropractic in the Annex

Support for your changing body, starting with understanding.

Pregnancy brings remarkable changes, and those changes can place new demands on your back, hips and pelvis. You may be dealing with discomfort, finding it harder to move comfortably, or simply looking for ways to stay active as your body changes.

At Annex Family Chiropractic, we start by listening to your concerns and understanding your individual circumstances. I'll assess your movement and spinal function, explain what I find, and discuss whether chiropractic care may be appropriate for you.

What brings people in during pregnancy?

Every pregnancy is different. Some of the concerns patients bring to me include:

  • Lower back discomfort as posture and body weight change
  • Hip or pelvic discomfort
  • Neck or upper-back tension
  • Difficulty finding comfortable positions throughout the day
  • Wanting to maintain comfortable movement and stay active

These concerns can have different causes, and not all are best addressed through chiropractic care. The first step is understanding what you're experiencing and whether I can appropriately help.

How I assess you during pregnancy

Your first visit starts with a conversation about your health history, pregnancy and concerns. I then carry out an examination adapted to your needs and stage of pregnancy. This may include posture and movement assessment, range of motion, appropriate orthopedic and neurological tests, and a hands-on spinal examination, along with computerized Insight scans as an additional source of information.

We do not use X-rays during pregnancy.

Please let our team know you're pregnant when booking so we can take that into account from the outset.

What care can involve

At your second visit, I'll explain the findings, discuss my recommendations and review the costs with you. If chiropractic care is appropriate and you choose to proceed, care generally begins then.

  • Chiropractic adjustments adapted to your comfort and stage of pregnancy
  • Comfortable positioning and appropriate support
  • Spinal traction, when suitable and helpful
  • Practical suggestions for everyday movement, work and rest

There isn't one approach that suits everyone. I'll explain what I'm recommending and why, and we'll review how you're responding along the way.

Care that adapts to you

As your pregnancy progresses, your comfort, mobility and needs may change. My recommendations are based on your examination findings, your circumstances and what you're hoping to achieve.

The goal is to help you understand your options and work toward better comfort and movement where chiropractic care is appropriate, not to promise a particular outcome or timeline.

When suitable, I may use low-force prenatal approaches, including the Webster Technique, which focuses on assessment and care of the pelvis.

Questions

Common questions about chiropractic during pregnancy

Is chiropractic care appropriate during pregnancy?

It may be appropriate for some people, depending on their health, symptoms and examination findings. I'll discuss your circumstances with you and adapt the assessment and any care accordingly. If your concerns call for medical assessment or another type of care, I'll explain that too.

Will you use X-rays?

No. We do not use X-rays during pregnancy.

Is the care comfortable during pregnancy?

The approach is adapted to your comfort, stage of pregnancy and examination findings. I'll explain the techniques I'm recommending and answer your questions before proceeding.

Can chiropractic help with back or pelvic discomfort?

Some pregnant patients seek chiropractic care for back, hip or pelvic discomfort. Whether it is appropriate for you depends on the cause of your symptoms and your individual circumstances. I won't assume chiropractic is the answer without first assessing you.

Can chiropractic turn a breech baby or make labour easier?

I don't promise that chiropractic care or the Webster Technique will change your baby's position or affect labour and delivery. Your midwife or obstetrician is the appropriate person to discuss fetal positioning and birth-related concerns with.

Can I continue seeing my midwife or obstetrician?

Yes. Chiropractic care does not replace prenatal care. Continue seeing your midwife, obstetrician or other healthcare professionals, and let them know about any additional care you're receiving.
